The adventure

Prepare for a day of fishing excitement on the beautiful Columbia river aboard my custom 18 foot build jet-sled boat. The Columbia is the largest river this side of the Mississippi and provides many fishing opportunities throughout the year. We focus on Spring Chinook, Summer-run Steelhead and Fall Chinook at Buoy 10 in Astoria. We fish this river in March and April for some of the best eating fish there are, Spring Chinook. We chase these fish from the lower river near Cathalamet, through the Portland area up past Bonneville Dam to the mouth of the Wind River and into Drano Lake. . In June we begin fishing for Summer-run Steelhead in the lower river near Cathalamet. We follow the fish up river and anchor in front of tributaries like the Cowlitz River. As the Columbia warms in the summer, the fish cool themselves on the cool run off of its smaller tributaries. These fish are very aggressive biters and they attack our bait.

The plan

1. Meet at Buoy 10 in Astoria ∙ 6:00am

We'll start the day by meeting up at Buoy 10 in Astoria just off of highway 101. We try to get out on the water by 6:00am, so please arrive a few minutes before so we can get pack up and situated. Please dress for the weather, it's usually a good idea to have a nice water proof jacket with a hood as well as water proof boots or shoes and a hat with a brim.

Your guide

Matt

Matt grew up fishing with his dad and grandfather here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. They spent their summers fishing in the San Juan Islands teaching him everything they knew about targeting Salmon and operating safely out on the water. Over the years Matt has spent countless hours on the water all over our the PNW, guiding and of course fishing with his family and friends. "Fishing is my passion and there is nothing better than being a part of landing a fish, whether that person be an avid fisherman or a first timer. I have spent countless hours on the water perfecting my craft and take pride in what I do. I will work hard all day to provide you with a fun and safe day on the water." -Matt
